Prince of Persia is one of the most beloved franchises of gamers and, although a new title seems far away, Ubisoft has not forgotten the series. The French publisher announced ” Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time, “a cooperative virtual reality experience with escape room dynamics.
In the game, players get together in teams of two, three, or four components to solve puzzles to escape the Fortress of Time. Despite the dynamics being focused on matches, the experience even has a story.
The Empress of Time, Kaileena, summoned the players to thwart the evil plans of a wizard who is trying to restore the Hourglass of Time and create an army of Sand Monsters. By solving the puzzles, players will be able to complete the mission.
Ubisoft executive producer for Escape Games, Cyril Voiron, revealed that the experience stands out for the possibility of controlling time in virtual reality. According to the producer, the adventure of Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time will put players on experiences “that go far beyond what we can do in real life.”
The computer game series “Prince of Persia” was launched in 1989 and now includes over 20 games. In “Dagger of Time,” the time can be influenced. Together with her, an evil magician who wants to create an army of sand monsters must be stopped. To do this, players must use the dagger of time to pause time and even rewind it.
“Prince of Persia: Dagger of Time” will soon be available to play in many escape room locations. You and your friends will get virtual reality glasses, a backpack on your back, and two controllers in your hands. Then you move freely in a room, can crouch, twist, and climb. The new world arises around you, which you explore together.
“It will be suitable for every player”, says the CEO
Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time was developed by Ubisoft, the same studio that previously created the VR arcade experiences Escape The Lost Pyramid and Beyond Medusa’s Gate. The VR escape room will soon be available at over three hundred locations worldwide, including many German cities. You can find an overview map here.
The lead producer of the game Cyril Voiron says in an interview that the VR experience is non-violent and suitable for all ages and wheelchair users.
Ubisoft licenses its VR titles to arcade operators and does not operate the VR arcades itself. MIXED editor Christian Steiner describes how such a VR escape room brand feels like in his test on Escape The Lost Pyramid.
Ubisoft is one of the few large studios that are very active in the VR area: in addition to the three VR arcade experiences mentioned above, it created a high-quality and very diverse game portfolio for home VR.
Prince of Persia: The Dagger Time will arrive in the second quarter of 2020 and, in Brazil, the cooperative virtual reality experience will be available in Voyager stores
We can expect this game to be launched in the first quarter of 2020, and it will be available in VR.
